Product Overview

Vision delivered
Posted June,21,2007 by Pete Manca
I’ve been traveling a great deal lately, visiting our customers around the world and spending time talking to my peers. Apart from racking up the frequent flier miles, I’ve also been able to have some great exchanges with our customers and prospects - getting their feedback and talking about the industry.
One thing that really stands out as I talk to customers is that Egenera is delivering on the vision of creating a Virtualized Data Center today, which is freeing our customers from the binds imposed by legacy hardware. The other thing I’m learning as I talk to prospects is just how much FUD is being generated out there by the legacy. In general I’m talking about larger vendors who can’t deliver on the promise of Agile Computing, but want to freeze the market so they can think about it for a while longer. One example is HP. They deliver incremental, non-integrated technology in their blade chassis called Virtual Connect. It really should be called Virtual Disconnect. Rather than integrating this into their management solution and virtualization strategy, they created a disjointed product that forces the customer down yet another management path. If you caught HP in a moment of candor, I have to wonder if they would admit how far behind they really are when it comes to providing a solution that customers can really leverage for increased business value? Even through this, Egenera keeps delivering. We were recently awarded several new patents, including the patent for the original Processing Area Network concept (6 years to get this!), and the one we just announced on N+1 Disaster Recovery. These are real solutions that give the customer real, measured value. No FUD; No promise of future technology that may never move off a slide; No misguided attempts to deliver partial, un-integrated solutions. Just real solutions, real value and vision delivered today.
