New Blades, Same Footprint

Egenera just announced support for Intel’s new 4-socket, Quad-Core XEON processors, offering versions with 16, 32, 64, and 96 Gigabytes of memory. All this in the same 1U format as our other blades, fitting in to the same chassis that we first delivered in the fall of 2001. Same chassis, same infrastructure, same blade form factor – with lots more processing and memory. Oh yeah, and zero downtime to install. There is no moving of adjacent blades to create room for these. There are no filler caps to make sure the chassis doesn’t light on fire, and there are no changes to you IO subsystem to install this new server. Just plug it in and go!
That’s the power of virtualization and specifically the power of Data Center Virtualization, where IO connectivity is virtualized and dynamic. The customer gets the advantage of new processing power with no disruption to the data center.
